The Creative Writing minor helps students to develop their craft in small, workshop-based courses taught by published writers. Publication opportunities include Cantos literary magazine. The minor is excellent preparation for students who seek advanced degrees in writing, as well as for those who wish to pursue careers in writing and the creative industries. A minor in Creative Writing requires 18 hours consisting of the following:

Minor Requirements (9 hours)

ENG 233 - Reading World Literature Hours: 3 (with an emphasis on contemporary literature.)
ENG 236 - Reading Like a Writer Hours: 3
ENG 281 - Introduction to Creative Writing Hours: 3

Minor Electives (9 hours)

ENG 345 - Writing Fiction Hours: 3
ENG 346 - Writing Poetry Hours: 3
ENG 348 - Literary Magazine Hours: 3
ENG 446 - Studies in Creative Writing Hours: 3 (May be repeated for credit under different instructors)
THR 270 - Script Writing Hours: 3
