Creative Writing Minor

Throughout this course of study, students will examine various works in poetry and fiction, analyze and discuss the genres, and develop their own creative techniques and strategies.Students will learn the arts of critique and revision through writing workshops, where they will share their work with peers.

A minor in Creative Writing requires a minimum of 21 hours, excluding ENG 130 and ENG 131 , consisting of the following:

A minor in Creative Writing requires a minimum of 18 credit hours consisting of

ENG 233G - Reading World Literature Hours: 3 (with an emphasis on contemporary literature.)
ENG 236 - Reading Like a Writer Hours: 3
ENG 281 - Introduction to Creative Writing Hours: 3
ENG 481 - Creative Writing Capstone Hours: 3
Choose three from the following:
ENG 330 - Visiting Writer-in-residence Workshop in Poetry or Fiction Hours: 3
ENG 345 - Writing Fiction Hours: 3
ENG 346 - Writing Poetry Hours: 3
ENG 347 - Writing Creative Non-fiction Hours: 3
THR 270 - Script Writing Hours: 3

An English major who elects to complete the minor in Creative Writing must complete a total of 12 unique credits in the minor.
