COU 540 - Group Counseling This is a didactic and experiential course intended to provide students with the knowledge, awareness, and skills necessary to gain an understanding of and begin to use group counseling theories and techniques in helping relationships. This course is designed to help the counselor understand the group counseling process. This includes a review of current literature and research in group counseling; an examination of the leadership role of the counselor in group process; an understanding of the ethical issues of group leadership in counseling; and a review of the developmental stages of counseling in groups. Each student will apply this knowledge by gaining experience as a participant in, and leader of a counseling group.
