COU 573 - Substance Abuse Counseling


This entry-level course provides counselors and other human service workers an overview of the substance abuse process. Specific emphasis will be placed upon counseling those with substance abuse concerns and facilitating changes within their environmental systems (e. g. , marriage, family, work, etc. ). Students will develop conceptual knowledge, skills, and self-awareness concerning substance abuse etiology, assessment, diagnosis, and treatment planning through assigned readings, seminar discussions, videotapes, lectures, field experiences, and case presentations.
