SCI 300 - Saving the Biosphere
Saving the Biosphere investigates how the biosphere works, and how we as humans interact with the planets dynamic environment. This course will introduce you to essential environmental topics and the scientific principles that underlie them. We use case studies to understand how human populations affect natural ecosystems, and evaluate the ethical consequences of development, preservation, and other innovative ways of interacting with ecological communities. We also examine the interrelation of our air and water resources, population, soils and food supply. We look at the climatic effects of energy usage with an emphasis on patterns of human behavior. Throughout the course we highlight practical applications of environmental principles to develop an ecological worldview. When Offered: Fall, Spring, Summer.
